Normally you paint the picture first, then go and buy a frame. I saw this beautiful frame in a shop so I bought the frame with the painting in mind, then made the painting fit the frame. The beauty of painting on board is you can cut it to any size you like.

Ian and Julie have been my good friends since 1975. We all met at art college in York, nearly 50 years ago! This is a private commission for Ian. The brief was something like 'It's got to look like her and can you do it in the style of Jack Vettriano.' No pressure! Glad you like it Ian x

Misty morning over Bridlington South Beach

11x7" Oil on panel

SOLD

It was June, but the run out to the coast from York involved driving through a heavy 'pea soup' fog. When we arrived at Brid the sea was invisible from the edge of the beach. Mid morning, the sun broke through providing a fascinating combination of fog and sunshine on Bridlington's spectacular South Beach. I was in charge of guarding the cooler box and playing the tunes but managed to break off for a few minutes to catch this scene with my camera.

Full disclosure... this is a copied piece just for practice. Jeffrey Pratt is a brilliant artist, check him out! I wanted to emulate his impressionistic colours and brushstrokes. It's harder than it looks! This got spotted on Facebook by a lady with a holiday home at Hornsea. She insisted on buying it so...
thanks Jeffrey!

Full disclosure... this is a practice piece copied from Neil Carroll. If I'm honest, it is Neil's work that inspired me to pick up my brushes again. He paints with beautiful loose brushwork, creating beautiful atmospheric images.
