I was born in Newcastle on Tyne in 1959. From being a teenager I spent most of my life in York, where, in 1975, I took a course in Graphic Design at York College of Art.
Throughout my career, I was more of a manager than a designer. Not enough time for drawing and painting (except for doodling in meetings)!
During the COVID lockdown (when we all had a little more time), I came across a movement of artists which involves the practice of 'daily painting'. Basically, artists are encouraged to create a small piece of art every day, then sell their work online.
This format allows artists to build their skills without getting bogged down in perfectionism. You can learn as much in a few hours on a small painting as you can spending weeks on a larger one.
The work of some of these artists is amazing and covers a whole range of mediums. Oils, watercolours, pastels, even collages. This inspired me to pick up my pencils and brushes in February 2021. Although I am not able to paint every day, I paint often.
As well as enabling me to produce small pieces of collectable, affordable art. It also means I can create a legacy for myself and the people I care about.
I hope you like.
