Staithes feels part storybook, part time capsule — a place where the past lingers in every winding alley and sea-sprayed stone.
A North Yorkshire fishing village where Red-roofed cottages cling to cliffs, and narrow cobbled lanes wind down to a sheltered harbour. Split by Staithes Beck, its two halves are joined by footbridges.
Once a bustling cod-fishing hub, Staithes later became home to the “Staithes Group” of artists, who captured its rugged beauty and everyday life. Today, it offers cliff-top walks, fossil hunting, and a glimpse of village life unchanged.
With its Jurassic cliffs, traditional pubs, and working boats in the harbour, Staithes remains a place where history and landscape are deeply entwined.
