Art Classes - May to June 2024

We are holding a series of Art Classes in the new Art Room at St. Bede's Pastoral Centre and The Bar Convent, Blossom Street, York.

These workshops are suitable for beginners, or those with a little experience. Everyone is welcome including children over 12 (accompanied by a paying adult). 

We aim to have fun whilst we learn in these sessions. No drawing skills are necessary, and we will go through everything step by step. Classes will consist of a maximum of 12 people, so everyone will get plenty of feedback and guidance. 

All materials will be provided. In each session, we begin by getting to know the materials you will be using. Ideal if you want to buy your own materials for practice at home.

Workshop #1: Loose Florals Saturday 11th May 10am-1pm

How to paint loose floral designs and create greeting cards to take home. If you've attended a workshop before, don’t worry, all workshops are unique. We always include new material. 

Workshop #2: Butterflies Saturday 1st June 10am-1pm

In this lesson we will learn how to transfer a basic outline to our drawing paper using a template. Then ink in the linework and finally add watercolour paint to produce a beautiful Butterfly painting.

Workshop #3: Seaside Characters Saturday 15th June 10am-1pm

I promise you don't need any drawing skills for this. You just have to trace down from the templates supplied and enjoy learning basic ‘line and wash’ techniques. We will be painting Crazy Crabs, Swarthy Seagulls and all kinds of seaside characters. (This is definitely a FUN session!!!)  

Workshop # 4: Cows and Donkeys Saturday 22 June 10am-1pm

We will be learning to paint farmyard animals in a lovely loose 'washy' style.

Workshop #5: Basic Drawing Skills Saturday 29th June 10am-1pm 

The Bar Convent, 17 Blossom Street, York YO24 1AQ

I will show you a number of ways to use your observation skills to draw the objects in front of you. Then how to render them to create the illusion of three dimensions.

Workshop #6: Garden Birds Saturday 29th June 2pm-5pm

The Bar Convent, 17 Blossom Street, York YO24 1AQ

Learn to paint your favourite garden birds in this loose and lovely watercolour style.
